A Wedding Tradition Gone Bad?

As it turns out many years later ... Maybe for her ... but not for me !!

This upcoming tale sounds a little freaky but I assure you THAT IT IS THE 100% TRUTH!

Way back in the day, certain wedding traditions took place at almost every wedding, today NOT SO MUCH! Many current brides now have a modern day approach and do it their own way, not the way everyone in the past had done it.

The tradition that I refer to is the throwing of the bridal bouquet.

(No, this isn't me!)

As stated in Wikipedia, under the section labeled United States Customs / Christian weddings:

The bride tosses her bouquet over her shoulder to the assembled unmarried women; the woman who catches it, superstition has it, will be the next to marry. In some social groups, the process is repeated for unmarried men with the groom tossing the bride's garter for the same purpose.

I put emphasis on the statement ... will be the next to marry. You wonder where this is all going - don't you?

In my case, the superstition took on a completely new meaning,

because THE YOUNG LADY WHO CAUGHT THE BOUQUET AT MY WEDDING (not a guest invited by me, I should add)

Are you ready for this ??

IS NOW MARRIED TO MY EX-HUSBAND!!

Thank God, that he is now HER problem and NOT mine!

Whoa. How bizarre! Sounds like tradition had a little too much to drink that night and got confused...but if you're happy, that's all that matters!

Hahahaha.

well let's just hope they are happy. then all's well that ends well.

No WAY!! I bet if you would have known way back then you would have thrown it a lot harder...and aimed at her nose.

Beccy: yes, very, but I AM OK with it.

ChrisB: It did at first - mainly because both boys were in his 2nd wedding and no, she wasn't a friend of mine - actually a friend of my brother and a co-worker of my husband's.

HeatherJ: no wild partying at that wedding - it was very small and alcohol-free.

theotherbear: it is kind of amusing isn't it?

Joy T: In actuality, I didn't like her much then ... so many years have passed - if I run into her, I am socially polite.

Rachel and mommyca: How many people do you know with a crazy tale like this - all true!

Just for the record -
His first wedding was in Dec 1976
He left his family (me and 2 toddlers) for the last time in July 1981
His (our) divorce became final Jan 1989 (Finally!! says Me)
His second wedding was in Sept 1989
The best I know he is still married!

What took so long for the divorce to be final? 8 years in limbo sucks.

That is too weird. Makes me remember one of HP's co-workers (woman) that he invited to our wedding and I did not want her there (she was very obvious that she wanted HP herself). Thank goodness no one knows where she is now.

I deliberately threw the bouquet to my unmarried baby sister!

cpa mom: Not receiving child support and struggling to make ends meet on my own - I could not afford a lawyer. He finally paid for one when he decided he wanted to get married again. At that point, it was quick and easy because there was no property to divide (what I(we) had was no longer good enough for him) and he didn't want the (burden of) kids. I did fight for child support but got little or nothing because VA sucked at that point. Fathers pay out the nose now ... Go figure!
