Fun Monday - #34 - What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up?

This week's host is Irish Coffeehouse. The assignment is:
Careers- Then and Now
THEN: As a child day dreaming of what your future would hold for you, what did you want to be when you grew up? Did you ever pursue or achieve it?
NOW: If you could be trained and placed in any career beginning tomorrow, what would it be?
THEN:
For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to be a teacher - an elementary education teacher. One who could mold the little ones from the start of their venture into learning.
Did I pursue or achieve it? NO.
What did I do? Not what I should have done ... I got married. I had 2 sons. I became a single-parent with two little ones to raise alone. I worked to make ends meet. I never went to college ...
I raised those kids. They are both married now and have kids of their own. I now work for a well known Department of Defense contractor as a Administrative Support Specialist (sounds impressive, but it ain't !!)
NOW:
If with the click of a finger and the blink of an eye, I could be (or do) anything I wanted - A teacher it still would be!!
Go over to the Irish Coffeehouse and grab a cup (with a muffin if you would like). While enjoying the brew, be sure to check out everyone else's careers - then and now !

Really, you'd still want to be a teacher? Then you should do it by golly. :)

PS - My sister in law was a translator in the Army for ages but now she works for the FBI. :)

I like the colorful way that you have wriiten this post with the colors and the bold letters. You still could be a teacher or volunteer in some place that you can help mold little ones from the start of their learning adventure.

Most of the time,it is never too late to pursue your dreams.

You molded some young minds early on - your own children. And it's not over yet... you could still do that if you wanted to - perhaps when you retire from your current career!

The world needs teachers who care!

....and you still COULD be a teacher!

Come by if you can find time. Have a super-duper Monday.

Have you thought of trying to volunteer at local schools - most employers that I've worked for wouldn't mind me coming in late or having a long lunch break to do something that helps out schools or similar?

Most schools jump at the chance to have someone just even come to read with some of the struggling kids.

Bet you'd make a great teacher.

As a teacher, I know the rewards of "molding" young lives. But, it is not all peaches and cream with the red tape. The government and administration have WAY too much control over what happens in the classroom and the times when a teacher's hands are tied to do the best thing for kids is way too often. I ended up jaded and went instead developed my own tutoring business so I could be my own boss!

I say if you're still dreaming it after all of these years... go for it!

I'm sure that even though you didn't make it into a formal classroom you still had a hand in molding some young minds--even your own children. When you're born to teach, you teach even if it's not the 3 Rs.

You know what they say it's never too late!!
I also agree with what faye said~the informal teaching at home is equal to all the formal stuff as it helps children learn values and lessons for life.

I have to agree with everyone else...you can still teach! My mom went back to college while I was in high school...I was so proud of her when she graduated and went with her dream!

It is never too late...or you can volunteer at your local school. My sister in law does that, she helps the kids with their reading..she loves it!!

I agree re-train if you really want to do it and are able to. I don't know if it is the same in the US but in the UK you can do a conversion course in a year and they pay you so it isn't too long to be out of work.

That was cool!!!!

Back in the day I wanted to be a volleyball coach! I use to eat, sleep, dream and play volleyball 24/7! I loved it! I went to college on a v-ball scholarship and blew my knee out! =( I didn't go back after that and I never became a coach! I came home from school got a waitressing job (WHICH I LOVED) met my (EX HUBBY - his dad and step mom owned the cafe)! I'm now an Office girlie (Office Mgr...I do payroll and A/R)! I got the job from a customer in the cafe! I've now been here for 11 years! =)

If I had it to do over again! I think I would either be a Volleyball Coach or a Dental Hygienist!!!!! Office work is soooooooooooooooooo dull!!!!
